Green Drinks McHenry County to celebrate 10 years Sept. 4

Green Drinks McHenry County - an environmentally focused group and lecture series for the general public - will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4. Guest speaker for this special celebration is Jen Walling, executive director of the Illinois Environmental Council, who will review the significant environmental legislation that passed in 2019 and give a sneak peek into what will happen in 2020.

Green Drinks McHenry County has been meeting once a month on the first Wednesday throughout the past decade for conversation, networking and environmental education on a broad range of topics and is part of a network of more than 500 Green Drinks local groups from all over the planet. Check www.greendrinks.org to see where you could go for green talks when you travel the globe! .

Green Drinks is co-sponsored by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen in Crystal Lake, 110 N. Main St. The Environmental Defenders manages the email list and PR, while Duke's serves as location host and treats attendees to appetizers. Expect something special for this first decade anniversary.

A Green Drinks Committee of volunteers are the organizers of the monthly event and handles social media through the local page of Greendrinks.org and at www.facebook.com/GreenDrinksMcHenryCounty.

Some past Green Drinks programs have included local, regional and national speakers who come to educate before what is usually a standing-room-only audience on their topic for about 30 minutes, followed by Q&A. Subject matter ranges from local food, energy efficiency, climate change, green business, environmental health and more. The format also welcomes an opportunity for community announcements with a "green" focus.
