Greater Elgin Family Care Center receives multiple national awards for quality of care - again!

Greater Elgin Family Care Center's 2018 outcomes on Bureau of Primary Health Care Clinical Indicators have been recognized as among the best of all Federally Qualified Health Centers in the United States and Illinois - for the sixth year in a row!

The Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration recognized Greater Elgin Family Care Center as a National Quality Leader, Health Center Quality Leader-Gold, Advancing HIT For Quality awardee, and Clinical Quality Improver on Aug. 20.

The awards are in recognition of the center's excellence in the clinical care of the over 51,000 patients.

Greater Elgin Family Care Center's Hypertension/Heart Health outcome ranked in the top 2% nationally, resulting in the National Quality Leader Award. This is the second time the center has been recognized as a National Quality Leader, with the first being in 2016.

Its overall clinical outcomes ranked in the top 10% of the country's 1,362 reporting Federally Qualified Health Centers, resulting in the receipt of the Health Center Quality Leader-Gold Award. The center has received the National Health Center Quality Leader for six consecutive years, the National Clinical Quality Improver Award in five of the past six years, and the Advancing HIT for Quality Award every year it has been offered.

Greater Elgin Family Care Center is also a 2017 Million Hearts Hypertension Control Champion, awarded by the Centers for Disease Control.

Coupled with operational and financial comparison reports also issued on Aug. 20, the awards acknowledge that Greater Elgin Family Care Center's outcomes are far better than most Health Centers in the state and nationally, on an array of clinical and financial indicator outcomes.

"I continue to believe that the definition of success is not achieving the goal, but maintaining that level of excellence over a long period of time. This is the sixth year in a row that GEFCC has received such prestigious recognitions from HHS/HRSA," said Bob Tanner, president/CEO of Greater Elgin Family Care Center. "It's our practitioners and professionals who make such excellent patient outcomes continue to happen."

The reports indicate that the Greater Elgin Family Care Center also has the third lowest cost per patient of the 44 Federally Qualified Health Centers in Illinois.

• The center's total cost per total patient is 36% less than the state average and 50% less than the national average;

• The center's medical cost per medical patient is 24% less than the state average and 39% less than the national average;

• The center's dental cost per dental patient is 21% less than the state average and 46% less than the national average.

"Greater Elgin Family Care Center provides value," Tanner said. "Whether you're a patient, a payer or a taxpayer, with our costs so low and our quality amongst the country's best, one can easily see that Greater Elgin Family Care Center is not only a trusted source of quality care, but a real value."

An award celebration is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26, with representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration personally attending and presenting the awards to the leadership of Greater Elgin Family Care Center.

The Greater Elgin Family Care Center is the area's premier Federally Qualified Health Center, providing the full range of quality, affordably priced, fully integrated primary care services to over 51,000 area residents by almost 167,000 medical, behavioral health and dental appointments annually.
