Clear the Shelters Day set for Aug. 17 at McHenry County Animal Control

The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center will participate in the fifth annual Clear the Shelters Day on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Adoption fees for all adoptable cats and dogs over six months of age will be waived during the event, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake.

The adoption fee for available puppies and kittens also will be reduced.

"Finding good homes for all of our animals is always our mission, but this special day gives us the opportunity to highlight our pets, who are so deserving of love. Not only is the adoption fee waived, but adopted pets go to their new home already spayed or neutered, micro chipped, treated for parasites, fleas and ticks and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, including the rabies shot," said Maryellen Howell, manager of McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center.

The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center joins more than 1,200 shelters across the country for this event. In 2018, it found homes for all but two animals. Across the country, Clear the Shelters has helped 256,688 pets find forever homes since it began in 2015.
