Lace up your sneakers for Global Running Day

Set your own pace and enjoy the scenery at Global Running Day, presented by Schaumburg Park District and Xtra Mile Running.

Runners and walkers alike are invited to celebrate Global Running Day from

5-7 p.m. on June 5 at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road.

"The best part about running is that it is a very personal accomplishment," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center manager and general program supervisor. "Whether you jog at a slow pace or run in full stride, the important thing is that you are getting out the door and being active. Running is a great way to exercise and clear your mind while being out in nature."

Participants should check in at the Volkening Lake gazebo and may walk/run around the lake as many times as they would like-the path around the lake is 0.7 miles. Individual and family prizes will be awarded to those who walk/run the most laps.

Cost is free for all ages. A hot dog or brat, chips and a bottle of water will be available for $3 per person.
