Local DAR to host Fresh Start Spring Donation Event May 18

Spring cleaning is a great way to clean out your closets and drawers, but what should you do with all that stuff?

The members of Fox River Valley chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be hosting Fresh Start Spring Donation Event on Saturday, May 18, at the American Community Bank, 10101 Route 47, Huntley.

A large trailer will be located in the bank parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Members will be on hand to unload your donations from your vehicle and the items will be going to the Savers Store. The chapter will receive a donation back based on the weight of the items. .

Sort your items into three categories and label them separately in boxes or bags. Soft goods include clothing, shoes, purses, hats, towels, curtains and bedding. Books and media include books, magazines, tapes, CD/DVD and videotapes. Miscellaneous includes small household goods, toys, stuffed animals, jewelry, craft items, frames and small tools and kitchen goods (no furniture).

Members will also be collecting nonperishable pantry items which will go to Transitional Living Services for Veterans in McHenry. TLS helps local veterans and their families with food, housing and employment assistance and peer support.

The chapter will offer a free genealogical workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road. They will assist prospective members to find and prove their lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot and assist with new member applications.
