Learn about hunting, wildlife conservation at Green Drinks meeting May 1
Nicky Strahl, a wildlife biologist and a hunter heritage biologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will talk about how the IDNR assists the conservation of wildlife at the monthly meeting of the Green Drinks McHenry County.
The meeting will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, 110 Main St., Crystal Lake.
The public is invited to gather for a talk and Q&A on environmental issues and to network with other sustainably minded people and professionals on the first Wednesday of each month.
Conservation of wildlife requires accounting for many biological and social factors, only a part of which is preservation of life. In many cases, preservation of one thing hinders the ability of something else to thrive.
In the past, wildlife populations became unbalanced and now after years of wildlife conservation another imbalance is occurring in some species. In both cases, hunting affected outcomes and will continue to have an effect.
However, the ethics, purposes, and benefits of hunting are often misunderstood, hindering conservation initiatives.
Nicky Strahl will discuss current practices of wildlife conservation with focus on influences on the environment, economy, and individual benefits of hunting.
You will learn how most hunters and non-hunters similarly want to support a healthy environment and can work together to enhance that cause.
Regardless if you are a hunter or not, there are a lot of options to conserve healthy populations. Strahl looks forward to discussing your thoughts and how you can help conserve wildlife.
