Dundee Animal Hospital promotes National Pet Week with poster contest, week-long celebration, and non-profit pet fundraiser

Dundee Animal Hospital invites the community to join in a weeklong celebration of their furry, feathery and scaly friends in honor of National Pet Week.

Established by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 1981, National Pet Week takes place this year from May 5-11 and is dedicated to celebrating the pets that enrich our lives and fostering responsible pet care every day of the year.

"We're excited about National Pet Week and have some great events planned," said Dena Chiddister, practice manager for Dundee Animal Hospital. "We've included activities for all ages and are looking forward to celebrating with our amazing pet-loving families and community."

Dundee Animal Hospital is celebrating with a number of different activities and events leading up to and during National Pet Week, including:

• A free poster design contest for kids, age 12 and under, to celebrate the theme "More than a Pet, More than a Friend … Family." First- to third-place winners will receive a goody basket and Amazon gift certificate ($75, $25 and $10, respectively). Poster submissions are due by 5 p.m. Friday, May 3. voting will take place on Facebook and Instagram between Monday and Friday, May 6-10. • Free informational materials and pet prizes available at all three hospitals. They will be providing informational materials at each of our hospitals and also be giving away pet "freebies" for anyone who comes in during the week of May 6-11.

• Gift basket raffle with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting local animal shelters/rescues. Beginning April 29, we will be selling raffle tickets for $5 a ticket for gift baskets including products and services from local and pet-related businesses. Winners will be drawn on Friday, May 10. All proceeds will go to Anderson Animal Shelter, Animal House Shelter and Hoof Woof and Meow Animal Rescue.
