AAUW-Crystal Lake sets up Giving Tree to benefit Home of the Sparrow

The American Association of University Women-Crystal Lake Area Branch is sponsoring a Giving Tree to benefit Home of the Sparrow again this year. Stop by the Crystal Lake Public Library, 126 W. Paddock St., to select an ornament. Gifts should be returned to the library circulation desk no later than 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

Branch members created ornaments, decorated the tree, and transport donated gifts to Home of the Sparrow through the end of December.

Home of the Sparrow's mission is: to provide hope, opportunity and support that empowers women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. .

AAUW's mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The AAUW is a nationwide network committed to taking positions on the fundamental issues of the day - educational, social, economic and political. They believe in equity for all. Next month, the AAUW Branch will host a "Musical Moments" program and bake sale from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Team Curran MMA, 110 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake.

This is an opportunity to pick up some baked goods or just enjoy a seasonal music program in a relaxed setting.

"Musical Moments" is a holiday music program featuring a clarinet quartet made up of professional musicians from our local area. The quartet will play a variety of classical and popular music, concluding with seasonal pieces.

The bake sale starts at 7 p.m. and continues throughout the evening. The business meeting will be at 7:30 p.m., with the program at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served prior to the program.
