Scorched Earth Brewing seeks artists to compete in its first can art competition

Scorched Earth Brewing Co. in Algonquin is hosting its first can art competition.

The competition seeks original art designed around the theme "Nordic Punk," destined to be featured as a 4-pack can release in December. It is open to U.S. residents, 21 or older.

The first-place winner will be awarded a $150 cash prize, brewery schwag bag, and their art featured on a Scorched Earth Brewing Co. 4 pack to share with the world. Second- and third-place prizes are up for grabs too.

Scorched Earth owner Mike Dallas underlined the importance of art in beer. "We adore clever art and illustration here at Scorched Earth. So much can art today is basic geometric shapes, squiggles, and font. Illustration helps tell a story about the beer, engages, and encourages dialogue. Our Fierce Female label is one terrific example of art doing just that."

The original artwork is due Sunday, Nov. 7.

The top entries will be announced on Friday, Nov. 12, with public judging on Nov. 12-14. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Interested artists should visit www.scorchedearthbrewing.com/news for rules and regulations, as well as a label template, application form, and email to submit the art.
