Crystal Lake American Legion to host Vets 4 Veterans' Families event June 26

Crystal Lake American Legion Post 171 is sponsoring a "Vets 4 Veterans' Families" event on Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church grounds, 300 S. Pathway Court in Crystal Lake.

It will showcase the numerous resources that are currently available to veterans that could mitigate this life-threatening issue. The event is to create awareness of the suicide epidemic in the community of military veterans.

Two equine activities organizations, BraveHearts and Veterans R and R, will be featured at the event, as equine activity has been very successful in treating PTSD and other disabilities.

Other resources that will be available include the following:

• RUSH University Hospital - The Road Home Program

• Veterans Path to Hope

• Veterans Assistance Commission McHenry County

• Veteran Administration Hospitals - Lovel Federal Health Center, Hines VA Hospital, Rockford Vet Center

• Local American Legion Posts, VFW Posts, Marine Corp League, and Team RWB units

• Semper Fi Fund

• Operation Coffee Roaster

• Oscar Mike Organization

• Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association

The event will include an area for children's activities such as games, Home Depot building kits, face painting, and a playground area.

Families will be entertained by a music venue, Harley Davidson motorcycle display, classic and antique cars, and demonstrations from the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association. In addition, food trucks will be available.

Plan to bring yourself and your family out to support this event and the organizations dedicated to improving the lives of veterans.
