COD horticulture students receive statewide recognition from ILCA

Four College of DuPage horticulture students recently were recognized at the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Excellence in Landscape Awards Night for their efforts in the annual ILCA 2018 Landscape Design Contest for college and high school students.

COD had multiple finalists at the competition, including Nahun Castillo (Lombard), honorable mention in 3D Landscape Design Computer Generated Presentation; Tom Eisenhart (Downers Grove), first place in College CAD Landscape Plan; and Carolyn Gange (Geneva) and Tim Miller (Downers Grove), first and fourth place, respectively, in College Hand-Drawn designs.

Founded in 1959, the mission of the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association is to enhance the professionalism and capabilities of members by providing leadership, education and valued services while promoting environmental awareness within the landscape industry. The association employs a wide variety of means to fulfill its mission, including the ILCA Institute, seminars, workshops, publications, trade shows, awards, networking, scholarship grants and social events. A non-profit trade association with more than 800 member companies, it serves as a forum for the free exchange of ideas among landscape contractors, their suppliers and the government, working together for a greener, more beautiful Illinois.

Nationally accredited by the National Association of Landscape Professionals, the Horticulture program at College of DuPage offers associate in applied science degrees in horticulture, landscape contracting and management, and sustainable urban agriculture, as well as nine specialized certificates, including landscape design and construction, nursery and garden center management, sustainable urban agriculture and sustainable landscapes.
