NoStigmas to host 'Celebrate Life' wellness fair Sept. 10 in Chicago

The Chicago-based mental health nonprofit NoStigmas will host its fourth annual Celebrate Life Wellness Fair for the public on World Suicide Prevention Day, Sept. 10.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive in Chicago.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 41,000 Americans die by suicide each year. NoStigmas is a global peer-led movement raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention by empowering advocates through education, support and action.

At the 2016 Celebrate Life Wellness Fair, attendees of all ages will have the opportunity to join in the global suicide prevention movement by:

• Browsing and shopping an expo of wellness-inspired vendors

• Participating in wellness activities led by partners like the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, including communal art, music therapy, group movement and kid-friendly games

Additionally, Kevin Hines, suicide attempt survivor, filmmaker and author of the best-selling book "Cracked, Not Broken" will be presented with the 2016 NoStigmas Hero Award at 1 p.m. for his achievements in brain disease advocacy and suicide prevention.

Tickets are available for $15 via NoStigmas.org/celebrate-life or $20 at the door.

Proceeds benefit NoStigmas. All attendees will be granted free admittance to the museum after the event.

"Through our Celebrate Life Wellness Fair, we're encouraging compassion and inspiration to help eliminate stigmas about mental health." said Jacob Moore, founder of NoStigmas and survivor of his father's suicide. "We believe that anyone can find a way to include these values in their everyday life and create a ripple effect that brings awareness to mental illness and help prevent suicide."

Event sponsors include: The Second City, My Fit Foods, Chicago Center for Behavioral Medicine, The Joint Chiropractic, Mercadito, Five Point Holistic Health, SoulCycle, Health Ade Kombucha and Oberweis Dairy.
