Auditions set for CLC Theatre's two fall productions

Community members are invited to audition for two plays being presented this fall by the College of Lake County theater department: "James and the Giant Peach" and "Everyman."

Auditions for the children's theater production of "James and the Giant Peach" will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24. Auditions for "Everyman" will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20. Both events will be held in the Studio Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

"James and the Giant Peach," Roald Dahl's fantasy adventure for children, will be presented Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. The play was dramatized by Richard R. George and is being directed by Alicia Hall, an adjunct faculty member.

Actors ages 12-60 should prepare a 90-second monologue from a comedic or children's theater play, be ready to sing a few bars of a simple song a cappella and bring a resume.

Callbacks will be from 6:30-10 p.m. Aug. 25. Scripts are available at the CLC Library circulation desk on the Grayslake Campus for in-library reading. Rehearsals start the week of Aug. 29 and are typically held Monday through Thursday evenings.

In "James and the Giant Peach," James and his insect friends go on amazing adventures inside a giant magical peach. Roald Dahl's first and most widely celebrated book for young people comes to life in this dramatization.

"Everyman," adapted by Carol Ann Duffy and directed by Craig Rich, will be presented Nov. 11-13 and 17-19. Auditions are for actors 18 and older, who should prepare a two-minute, memorized monologue from any contemporary play. The production needs a variety of performers. In addition to traditional actors, some characters sing, rap, dance and move.

In the show, Everyman is successful, popular and riding high, but when Death comes calling, Everyman is forced to account for his life. He embarks on a last, frantic journey to recruit a friend, family member, anyone to speak on his behalf.

But Death is close behind and time is running out. One of English drama's oldest plays, "Everyman" explodes onto the stage in a startling new adaptation.

Scripts are available at the Grayslake Library circulation desk for in-library reading. For more information on CLC shows and auditions, become a fan of the CLC theater department Facebook page.

Members of the community also are invited to register for CLC theater courses. Two theater courses fulfill CLC's general education fine arts core requirement - Introduction to Theatre and Diversity in American Theatre, and several others are Illinois Articulation Agreement transfer courses.

Daytime courses include Introduction to Theatre, Principles of Acting, Play Analysis for Production, Acting II, Lighting for Stage and Studio, Stage Makeup, Stagecraft and Stage Management. Evening sessions are being offered for Audition Techniques and Principles of Acting.

"Whether your interest is technical theater or performance, we have a course for you - acting, stagecraft, lighting, stage management and more," said Craig Rich, theater department co-chair.

For more information, contact him at (847) 543-2567 or crich@clcillinois.edu. Fall semester classes begin Aug. 22.
