Pedal into the night for a bike friendly Crystal Lake Aug. 6

In collaboration with local bicycle enthusiasts, the fifth annual Crystal Lake Night Owl Bike Ride will take place Saturday, Aug. 6. The ride will begin at 11 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Municipal Complex. The 15-mile route will end back at the municipal complex.

The purpose of this late night bicycle ride is to benefit The Land Conservancy of McHenry County and to promote bicycling as an alternate means of transportation and exercise within the city of Crystal Lake. Get your bike, helmet, light and water bottles ready for this fun night time event!

The ride is limited to 500 riders. Any rider 18 years and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the ride. The safety of Night Owl participants is of primary importance. The route is on public streets and must be shared with motor vehicles during evening hours. They require all riders to wear helmets, have lights on your bicycle and ride no more than two abreast. The Crystal Lake Police Department also reminds participants to obey all traffic laws. It is not a race, but a ride. The Crystal Lake Police Department bike patrol will ride along to insure a safe and fun ride for all participants.

Advance registration is $16 or $20 at the event. Registration table will open at 10:30 p.m., unless the 500-rider limit has been reached.

Stop in Wheel Werks Custom Bike Shop, 115 N. Main St. in Crystal Lake, the day of the ride to pick up preordered T-shirt, reflector belts and bib number from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. T-shirts are $15 or $20 at the ride.
