Burlington Central advances 9 to sectional

Class 2A at Burlington Central: The host Rockets had three regional champions and four second-place finishes but came up just short in the team standings. Rockford East won the regional title scoring 191 points. Burlington was second with 175.

Advacning to the Fenton sectional next weekend as individuals for the Rockets will be Kevin Marshall (1st, 119 pounds), Shane Burke (1st, 125) and Tim Maroder (1st, 171) as regional champions. BC got seconds from Johnny Major (103), Buddy Toth (130), DeMetrius Phillips (135) and Tim Vincent (215). Also advancing will be third-place finishers Omar Awad (112) and Tim Botsford (140).

Hampshire's first-year program also competed at the regional but didn't qualify anyone for sectionals. Whip-Purs sophomore Glen Buckwinkler finished fourth at 215 pounds.

Class 1A at Harvard: St. Edward junior Shane Finnane finished second at 285 pounds to advance to next weekend's Plano sectional. Finnane (22-8) lost to Harvard's Jake Pribble by a fall in 5:42 in the championship match. The Green Wave also advanced junior Price Davis, who finished third at 171. Davis (13-19) pinned Rockford Lutheran's Dillon Haller in 2:55 to punch his ticket to Plano.

Class 3A at McHenry: Jacobs' Aaron Ryan nabbed championship honors in the 112 pound weight class of the McHenry regional to advance to next weekend's Barrington sectional. Ryan will be joined by teammates Joey Diehl (125 pounds) who finished second and Derek Bush (285) who qualified with fourth place honors. From Crystal Lake South, Nick Fontanetta (103) Gerard Golston (130), Kean Loupee (145), Joe Fontanetta (160) and Alex Uidl (171) will advance, while Huntley will send Josh Symbal (160) to Barrington. Cary-Grove also had a successful day and will see Corey Meyer (119), Terrence Fox (135), Jake Stewart (160) and Cody Heche (189) move on. Grant earned the team title with 179 points.
