Larkin comes back to win
Down 1-0 at the half, Raul Sandoval and Michael Berequin connected with each other twice to lift Larkin (12-1, 3-1) past Lake Park 2-1 Tuesday in Upstate Eight Conference boys soccer action.
Berequin found Sandoval for both goals. Raziel Somarriba was in goal for the Royals recording 5 saves.
"It was a good, exciting game," said Larkin coach Ken Hall. "Lake Park is always a tough team so this was a great result for us."
Streamwood 2, East Aurora 1: Scoreless at the half, East Aurora jumped out on top of Streamwood (12-3-2, 4-1) first. Still, the Sabres persisted and with 4 minutes remaining, tied things up at 1-1 when Alex Aranda delivered a corner kick to Alex Lopez, who found the back of the net. With 8 seconds left to play, it was deja vu as Aranda again found Perez waiting in front of the net. Perez headed one past the EAst Aurora keeper for the Upstate Eight Conference win. Goalkeeper Edgar Leyva kept Streamwood in it with 5 saves.
Crystal Lake South 1, McHenry 0: Scoreless through regulation and a pair of overtimes, Crystal Lake South (9-7-1, 5-1) outshot McHenry 4-2 in the shootout to win this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division battle. Scoring for South were Jordan Innis, Ryan Knutson, Kevin Novak and Brian Schuda. Goalkeeper Zach Dalzell had 4 saves for the Gators.
Grayslake North 4, Huntley 2: With goals from Jorge Gonzalez and Jesus Alejos, Huntley (4-4-2, 3-3) took a 2-0 lead into the second half, but came out on the losing end of this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division meeting. Kevin Montelongo kept busy in goal recording 16 saves in a losing effort.
Cary-Grove 1, Jacobs 0: Knotted at 0-0 after the half, Calvin Brown lifted Cary-Grove (11-1-1, 5-1) past Jacobs in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division matchup, scoring the lone goal of the game assisted by Nick McDonald. Each tallying 7 saves, Ben Alleva was in goal for the Trojans, while Danny Trevor defended the Golden Eagles' net.
Illiana Christian 2, Westminster Christian 1: Trailing 2-0 at the half, Westminster Christian (6-6-1, 0-3) cut the deficit in half, but couldn't pull ahead, falling to Illiana Christian in Private School League play. Scott Saturik kept the Warriors in the game making 15 saves defending the net. Josh Beachler scored the only Warrior goal.
Hampshire 6, St. Edward 0: Hampshire (5-6-1) took a 5-0 first half lead and never looked back as it picked up this nonconference win over St. Edward (4-10-1). Austin Buck got the Whip-Purs rolling with a pair of goals. Buck was assisted by John Cabral and Robert Murphy respectively. Cabaral later connected for 2 goals of his own with passes from Kyle Bracke and Noel Sosa. Ismael Morales scored off a dish from Jason Bishop, who later scored a goal of his own assisted by Andrew Obmalay. Marcus Quick recorded his third shutout of the season blocking 4 shots on goal. For the Green Wave, Jim Cholewa tallied 10 saves.
St. Charles East 4, Elgin 0: With head coach Dave Borg away from the game tending to bee stings, the Maroons (1-13, 0-5) came up short in this Upstate Eight Conference meeting.
Dundee-Crown 4, Woodstock 3: With a pair of goals from Ricardo Carrillo and a knock from Julio Salas, Dundee-Crown (6-8, 4-2) took an early lead. However, Woodstock fought back to tie things up in regulation and after two overtimes, it came down to a shootout. Converting on each of its five efforts, D-C etched out Woodstock 5-4 in the shootout for the 4-3 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Shootout goals came from Carrillo, Wyatt Vucic, Roger Bravo, Salas and Tony Meza. Josh Cook was on net duties for the Chargers collecting 4 saves.
