Firth pitches Stevenson past Libertyville
Scott Firth won the rematch.
The Clemson-bound Firth pitched a complete-game 3-hitter to lead Stevenson's baseball team to a 5-1 win over visiting Libertyville on Thursday.
Troy Barton suffered the loss for Libertyville in the North Suburban Lake Division game. Last month Eastern Illinois-recruit Barton beat Firth.
In the rematch, Firth struck out eight and walked two in improving to 4-1.
Barton allowed 5 runs (all earned) in his 6 innings. He fanned two and walked two.
Stevenson (19-5, 5-3) was led offensively by Teddy Heiser, who went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Patrick Wilson also doubled for the Patriots.
Libertyville (16-7, 6-4) got a double from Mike Seefeldt.
Lake Zurich 5, Mundelein 3: Tyler Schmitz smacked a 2-run, go-ahead homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Bears in a North Suburban Lake Division thriller.
Sam Aslan (2-for-3) gave Lake Zurich (16-8-1, 6-2) an insurance run with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.
Chas Evans earned the complete-game win, striking out 10, walking four and yielding 3 hits.
Ricky Erickson had a double for Lake Zurich.
Jack Cunnion went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for Mundelein (19-5, 5-3).
Grayslake North 6, McHenry 1: Vinnie Licciardello was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Joe Bowes went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Knights in the Fox Valley Conference crossover.
Ed Tatera went the distance on the mound for Grayslake North (6-16). He struck out four, didn't walk a batter and scattered 8 hits.
Lakes 4, Grant 3: The Eagles prevailed in a North Suburban Prairie Division game that was suspended due to rain on Wednesday.
Paul Kukulka's RBI single in the sixth snapped a 3-3 tie and lifted Lakes (17-7, 7-0). Tim Ryan pitched the seventh for his third save. Nick Hibbing earned his first win, striking out four in 2 innings.
Marmion 11, Round Lake 0: The visiting Panthers did not have a hit in the nonconference game that last 5 innings.
Marmion improved to 15-2.
