Wauconda starts with win at Marengo
Wauconda's boys basketball team made a successful debut in Marengo's EC Nichols tournament.
Despite missing two players who were sick, as well as starter Tyler Gick (knee), the Bulldogs defeated Antioch 73-47 Wednesday night.
Junior forward Connor Rueb scored a season-high 20 points, as Wauconda built a 17-8 lead after one quarter en route to its first win of the season.
Wauconda (1-9) also received 15 points apiece from Kyle Ryan and Michael Obrochta. Obrochta added 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Matt Mead had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals, and Michael Lovelle dished out 5 assists.
Antioch was led by William Waschow's 15 points and Mike Siperko's 12.
Grayslake North 65, Johnsburg 56: At Grant, Teddy Ludwick and David Sparks each scored 24 points, as the Knights capped the tournament by winning the seventh-place game.
AJ Fish added 9 points for Grayslake North (8-3, 2-2 tourney).
Mike Dombrowski had 22 points for Johnsburg.
Grant 42, Northridge Prep 38: Jerry Gaylor scored 14 points and Jared Helmich added 12, as the host Bulldogs won their final game of their own tournament, securing third place.
Grant improved to 7-4 and finished 3-1 in the tourney.
