Harper to hosts Sabor Latino event

The Harper College Latinos Unidos student organization will host its annual Sabor Latino event at 6 p.m. Friday in the Student Center Lounge, on the main floor of Building A on the college's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

Titled “Sembrando Nuestras Raices,” or “Spreading Some Roots,” the show will include a host of dances representing various countries in Latin America.

“We are proud of our roots, and want other people to know more about them,” said Jhoana Mendoza, Latinos Unidos vice president. “This show is the representation of the Latino culture in the United States.”

The show will feature 16 performances by Latino Harper alumni, faculty and students, as well as guest appearances from community members. Highlights will include a traditional dance from the Spanish Club of Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and a Cuban dance from the Harper College Dance Company.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. The price includes appetizers, which will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund for Latino students.
