Girls soccer: Fox Valley all-area team

Sam Anderson Hampshire

This senior defender finished the 2010 season with 5 assists and was a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection. "Sam is our outside left defender. She is one of the most dominate outside defenders I have ever seen," said Hampshire coach Pat O'Brien. "We didn't have a goal scored off her side all year. She is the best player at her position that I have ever seen. She is so strong and fast and has tremendous shutdown ability."

Liz Bart Cary-Grove

Bart, a senior defensive midfielder, finished the 2010 slate with 3 goals and 2 assists. "Her contributions to the team came from her leadership and with her composure on the field," said Cary-Grove coach Ray Krystal. "We had a young team at the beginning of the season and she was the person out there mentoring the other girls. She added a calming factor to the field. She made sure everybody else on the field around her was on the same page. She made everybody else around her a better player."

Rachel Doby Westminster Christian

A senior midfielder, Doby ended the year with 4 goals and 12 assists. "Rachel was a great asset," said Westminster coach Mike Richardson. "She is very competitive and drives the players to perform at their best. She is also willing to play any position to help the team succeed. Her success this year was that she developed her vision and looked for passes to other players instead of trying to do everything herself, which showed in her assist stats this year. Rachel and Sarah (Rogers) have been a blessing to the sports program at Westminster Christian for four years and are the reason we had a better season this year."

Cassie Dumoulin Hampshire

A senior forward, Dumoulin tallied 24 goals and 7 assists this season for the Whip-Purs. Dumoulin was a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection. "Cassie has grown more in her short time playing the game than I ever could have imagined," said Hampshire coach Pat O'Brien. "Her work ethic is second to none. She has grown from a fine athlete into a fine soccer player. When Cassie first came out for soccer, we knew we were getting an incredible athlete. In a very short period of time, Cassie became an incredible soccer player. Her drive is second to none, which served us well with her up top scoring goals."

Alex Field Hampshire

Field, a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection, missed 6 1/2 of the team's first 8 games and still scored 16 goals to go with 7 assists. The Whip-Purs went 15-0-1 at one point after the senior midfielder's return. "She is by far the best all-around player we've ever had," said Hampshire coach Pat O'Brien. "Alex has a true passion to play the game of soccer. She played through some serious injuries this year, but she didn't let her quality of play slip at all. It is a joy to watch her practice her craft on the field. Heart and soul is a perfect description of what she meant to our team."

Taylor Henning Fletter Huntley

Henning Fletter, a senior midfielder, notched 4 goals and 5 assists and was an all-sectional and all-conference pick. She'll continue her career at Western Illinois. "Taylor is a hardworking center-mid who plays tireless defense," noted Huntley coach Kris Grabner. "She is a very unselfish player. She has controlled the run of play for us all season. Taylor contends well in the air and has the ability to dictate the pace of the game."

Sara Kemp Streamwood

A junior defender, Kemp finished the year with 2 goals and 5 assists en route to an all-Upstate Eight Conference selection. "Sara was one of the most versatile players on our team," said Streamwood coach Chelsea Lloyd. "She would usually play up to three or four different defensive positions per game. She is very smart with the ball and is good with keeping our defensive backs organized with their marks. She also has great crosses and shoots on goal when given the opportunity."

Korey Kronforst Cary-Grove

A sophomore forward, Kronforst went over the 20-goal barrier for a Trojans team that advanced to a Class 3A sectional final. "She's a 20-goal scorer and a difference-maker on the team," said Cary-Grove coach Ray Krystal. "She's a player that is dangerous and effective. She makes things happen. She has a positive attitude and works hard to make sure no one else outworks her." Kronforst was an all-Fox Valley Conference pick and an all-sectional honorable mention choice.

Dana McElwain South Elgin

McElwain is a two-time all-Upstate Eight Conference selection who finished with 3 goals and 2 assists this season and helped the Storm to their best season in school history (most wins and first regional victory ever). The sophomore defender was an all-tournament selection at Hoffman Estates. "She is one of the best defenders in the conference and plays with confidence," said South Elgin coach Tiffany Disher, who lauded McElwain's leadership abilities and her ability to control the defense. "She has the ability to see the field and distribute passes with pristine accuracy."

Deanna Libricz Dundee-Crown

Libricz, the D-C team captain the last two years, finished the season with six shutouts in goal. The senior all-sectional honorable mention pick, averaged over 10 saves a game for the Chargers. "Deanna has been a large reason why Dundee-Crown has been able to compete with teams over the past three years," said D-C coach Sebastian Falinski. "She has tremendous shot-stopping ability both on and off her line. She has great hands. It's rare to see her drop a ball. This has allowed us to launch counterattacks with punts or off throws. She would be one of the best field players on my team if I would let her. Over the years, Dee has evolved into a great leader and approaches every practice and game with a dedication and desire to win. I believe Dee is one of the best keepers in the area." Libricz is headed to Northern Illinois University this fall.

Kelsey Quitschau Jacobs

A senior midfielder, Quitschau tallied 7 goals and 4 assists for the Golden Eagles and earned all-Fox Valley Conference and all-sectional honorable mention accolades. "Kelsey was the heart and soul of a very young soccer team," said Jacobs coach AJ Cappello. "Day in and day out she left everything she had on the soccer field, whether it was practice or a game."

Sarah Rogers Westminster Christian

Rogers, a senior forward, had 15 goals and 2 assists for the Warriors, helping the team go from a 2-12 mark last year to a 9-6-4 record this year. "Sarah was a positive role model for the younger players," said Westminster coach Mike Richardson. "She has a great work ethic and is extremely coachable. She was willing to ply any position to help the team be successful this year. She succeeded with her ability to take shots under pressure. She has a nose for the goal."

Ashley Ross Crystal Lake South

Ross, a senior forward, recorded 12 goals to go with 6 assists and finished her South career with 45 goals, 22 assists and three all-conference and all-sectional awards. "Ashley is one of the more dangerous attackers in the area," said South coach Brian Allen. "She has had a phenomenal 4-year career, even while being hampered by a hamstring injury last season and a knee injury this season. The combination of skill and speed has made her difficult to contain for opponents the past few seasons. Most impressive is her vision and willingness to get her fellow attackers involved in the mix. She is always thinking 1-2 steps ahead and that level of thinking should serve her well as she continues her career at (Division I) Toledo next fall."

Lauren Steimle Elgin Academy

Steimle, a senior midfielder, scored an area-high 39 goals to go with 14 assists. This all-sectional and all-Independent School League choice, finished her 4-year run at Elgin Academy with 113 goals and 46 assists. "She's the best player to ever play at Elgin Academy," said Hilltoppers coach Greg Repede. "She works hard and is very fast and is a natural scorer. She makes people better out there. She's not the least bit selfish. She gets her share of goals, but she works hard to make sure someone else get shots." She finished her career with 33 multi-goal games. Steimle is headed to Washington University in St. Louis.

Madalene Stoneman Burlington Central

A sophomore forward, Stoneman finished the season with 23 goals and 7 assists and picked up all-sectional honors and was a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection for a Rockets team that went 7-1-2 in league play. She was also all-tournament at the Kaneland invite. "Without a doubt she is our go-to girl when we need a goal," said Central coach Mike Gecan. "I am very excited to see what the next couple of years have to offer for this extremely talented young lady."

Bianca Swegler Elgin Academy

Swegler, an all-Independent School League selection, won 16 games in goal for the Hilltoppers this year and recorded 53 wins during her 4-year run. "You don't win 16 games in one season without a great keeper," said Elgin Academy coach Greg Repede. "She's probably one of the most gifted athletes I've ever coached." According to statistics provided by her father, Jeff Swegler (an assistant coach on the team), Swegler had 802 career saves through the end of the regular season-which places her third on the IHSA's all-time saves list. She finished with a career save percentage of .874 and had a career 1.66 goals-against average. She had a 1.99 GAA heading into the regionals this season (205 saves, which will be her fourth entry into the IHSA record book for saves in a year).

Kelsey Taldone Crystal Lake South

Taldone finished the season with 2 goals and 7 assists, helping South go 17-8-2 overall (the team's 8 losses came to opponents that at one point late in the season had a combined record of 137-35-15). The senior defender is a 2-time all-Fox Valley Conference selection, who also earned all-sectional, Pepsi Showdown and Glenbrook Cup all-tournament accolades. "Kelsey is hands down one of the best marking backs in the state," said South coach Brian Allen. "As our lockdown defender, her value to this team this year could not be measured just from a playing ability, but also in her leadership. She did it all for us including single-handedly man-marking numerous all-state players out of the game, giving us a chance to win." Taldone will play at Division II Upper Iowa.

Aimee Wronski Huntley

Wronski, the honorary co-captain of the Daily Herald's All-Area girls soccer team, finished the season with 26 goals and 11 assists and enjoyed her third-straight 20-win season as a varsity member. The junior forward earned all-state, all-sectional and all-Fox Valley Conference awards. "Aimee is a game-changing player," said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. "She has incredible speed with the ability to cut without losing speed. She can score from anywhere with either foot." Wronski has committed to Illinois State.

Erin Zaideman Bartlett

Zaideman, a senior goalie, allowed only 13 goals all season and recorded 7 shutouts for the Hawks. Zaideman, an all-Upstate Eight Conference selection, was a 4-year starter for Bartlett and will continue her career at Northern Iowa next season. "Erin is unstoppable in the net and commands her defense better than any keeper I've seen this season," said Bartlett coach Heather Thomas, who noted Zaideman was injured for part of the 2010 season.
