Friday's Fox Valley roundup

The Cary-Grove softball team wrapped up the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division outright championship Friday with a 9-0 win over McHenry.

The championship is the Trojans' first outright in coach Tammy Olson's 17 years at the helm, and their first since they shared with Crystal Lake South in 2006.

Emma Gaulke and Abbe Wienckowski led Cary-Grove (23-6, 12-1) with 2 hits each and freshman Lindsay Efflandt ran her record to 19-3 by firing a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Cary-Grove has now won 8 straight and 13 of its last 14.

Jacobs 12, Dundee-Crown 1: Sara Jacobson was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and Kelsey Peterson went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI as Jacobs (16-8, 9-4) rolled to an easy FVC Valley win. Amber Livingston (6-4) picked up the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing 6 hits with 9 strikeouts and no walks. Tiffany Rawlinson went 3-for-3 with a double for the Chargers (1-20, 0-13). Melany Love was D-C's losing pitcher.

Huntley 1, CL South 0: The Red Raiders (17-9, 9-4) remained tied with Jacobs for second place in the FVC Valley by edging Crystal Lake South. Arianna Albanese and Kelsey Hagan each had 2 hits for Huntley and Nikki DeMarco had a double and scored the game's only run. Taylor Larson (15-8) picked up the win in the circle, allowing just 4 hits. Rachel Leis suffered the loss for the Gators (11-14, 4-9).

St. Edward 11, ACC 1: The Green Wave picked up their 20th win of the season in the regular-season finale. Tarah McShane had 2 doubles and 3 RBI for St. Edward (20-14, 9-6 Suburban Christian), while Kristi Knott, Bre Medinger and Kristina Brockner each doubled as well. Winning pitcher Sarah Field and Brockner each had 2 RBI.

Lake Park 2, Larkin 0: The Royals (9-18, 6-9) played Lake Park tough but the Lancers made 2 runs in the second inning stand up for an Upstate Eight win. Megan Johnson (3-5) suffered the loss for Larkin despite allowing just 5 hits.

Neuqua Valley 12, Elgin 0: Jenna Jaynes had a double but the Maroons (10-21, 4-12) managed just 3 hits in this Upstate Eight loss in Naperville. Jennifer Fulton suffered the loss for Elgin.

St. Charles East 14, South Elgin 4: St. Charles East scored 6 runs in the first inning and went on to beat South Elgin (9-16, 5-10) in the Upstate Eight. Kara Rodriguez had 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBI for the Storm while Rae Bosteder had 2 hits including a double and an RBI. Losing pitcher Sam Bolin also drove in a run for the Storm. Kayla Brooks had a home run and 4 RBI for the Saints.

Bartlett 21, East Aurora 2: Bartlett notched its 20th win of the season and solidified its hold on second place in the Upstate Eight by rolling over East Aurora under the lights in Aurora. Callie Dennison, Laura Chuchvara, Stevie Treskow and Sammie Treskow each had doubles for the Hawks (20-8, 13-3), who scored 11 runs in the first inning. Tory Burke (1-1) picked up the win in the circle.

Class 2A regional correction: The Class 2A Lisle regional next week will be played at Lisle Community Park, not at Benedictine University. Lisle Community Park is across the street from Lisle High School. St. Edward takes on Lisle at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals.

College softballJudson eliminated: The Judson University softball team got one win out of its trip to West Palm Beach, Fla., and the NCCAA World Series, but then lost and was eliminated from the tournament. Judson opened the day with a 4-0 win over Covenant College behind the pitching of Sarah Boyer (9-10). Carrie Sensor and Danielle Curylo each had 2 hits for the Eagles, while Concetta Lampugnano drove in 2 runs and Allison Catlett added an RBI. The Eagles were then sent home with a 5-2 loss to Simpson University. Lizzy Jacobson (16-11) suffered the defeat. Judson finished the season 31-29 with the 31 wins being a school record.
