Mundelein gets past Maine South

Mundelein's girls soccer team overcame a 1-0 deficit at halftime to edge Maine South 3-2 in a Pepsi Showdown match Thursday.

Stephanie Emery, Shayne Carroll and Ashley Begrowicz scored for the Mustangs, with Aarika Cancelli earning an assist.

Brooke Dennis made 8 saves in goal for Mundelein (7-1-1).

Round Lake 2, N. Chicago 0: April Barroso scored twice, and the Panthers received other goals from Hayley Vaughn, Kassey Tellez and Bianca Mahoney.

Keeper Angie Carey made a pair of saves in notching the shutout.

Round Lake coach Andres Orbe said it's the first time the Panthers have started 2-0 in North Suburban Prairie Division play.

St. Viator 3, Lakes 2: Alex Neal scored her 10th goal of the season and Michelle Kosman also tallied for the Eagles.

Brittany Mooney and Ashley Neubeck had assists for Lakes (5-4).

Lake Zurich 5, Antioch 0: Brooke Sill scored a goal in each half and added an assist for the Bears, who led 4-0 at the break.

Lake Zurich (4-3) also got goals from Sarah Stauner, Molly Murrin and Kelly Loch. Vanesa Abad, Loch and Hailey Chmela had assists, as well.

Vernon Hills 0, Grant 0: Grant keeper Roberta Avilez made 7 saves in the North Suburban Prairie Division draw.

Vernon Hills (0-3-1) is still seeking its first win.

Cary-Grove 1, Warren 0: The visiting Trojans (5-6) got a second-half goal from Brittany Kroening, while Paige Lincicum made 4 saves in earning the shutout.

Grayslake North 2, Johnsburg 1: Alyssa Soulis finished a through ball from Chloe Basa 10 minutes into the second half to snap a 1-1 tie in the Fox Valley Fox match.

Soulis also scored the Knights' first goal, finishing a rebound a Maggie Stojak shot in the first half, after Johnsburg had struck first, just 13 minutes into the game.

"After our sluggish start, we really played well behind the ball, with a great defensive performance from freshman Jaclyn Brennan and sophomore Katie McGrath," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "They got some help from sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Sauer (7 saves), who made a couple of big saves to keep us on top for good."

Grayslake North improved to 6-5-1 overall and 3-3 in rhe FVC Fox.
