Larkin, Westminster Christian to host sectionals

The Illinois High School Association released assignments for the baseball postseason this week and area fans will be treated to two sectional tournaments in Elgin later this spring, as well as one in St. Charles.

Larkin and St. Charles East were both awarded Class 4A sectionals, while Westminster Christian will host both a regional and a sectional in Class 1A.

Here's a look at how the postseason assignments went for Fox Valley area teams.

Class 4A: Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford will host the supersectional matchup between sectional winners from Larkin and St. Charles East.

The Larkin sectional field has predetermined regionals with Cary-Grove, Dundee-Crown, Jacobs and Harlem as the hosts.

Aside from the host Trojans, who finished fourth in the state last year, the C-G regional includes Conant, Hoffman Estates, McHenry and Rolling Meadows. Dundee-Crown, Elgin, Schaumburg, South Elgin and Streamwood are assigned to the D-C regional, while the Jacobs field consists of the host Golden Eagles, Crystal Lake South, Larkin, Huntley and Rockford Jefferson.

Harlem's regional participants are Harlem, Rockford Auburn, Rockford Boylan, Rockford Guilford and Hononegah.

The St. Charles East regional hosts are Elk Grove, Geneva, Willowbrook and Wheaton North. Bartlett is the lone Fox Valley area team in the St. Charles East sectional. Upstate Eight schools Lake Park and St. Charles North, as well as the host Saints, are also in the field.

Class 3A: Burlington Central and Hampshire are both in the Hampshire regional, which feeds to the DeKalb sectional. Also at Hampshire will be Crystal Lake Central, Prairie Ridge and Kaneland. The Hampshire regional winner joins regional champs from Belvidere North, Sterling and Oswego at DeKalb with the sectional winner meeting the East Peoria sectional winner at the Augustana College supersectional.

Class 2A: St. Edward has been assigned to the Harvard regional along with the host Hornets, Genoa-Kingston, Northridge Prep and North Boone. The winner advances to the Lisle sectional at Benedictine University along with regional winners from Walther Lutheran, Holy Trinity and Aurora Christian. The sectional winner returns to Benedictine to face the Watseka sectional winner in the supersectional.

Class 1A: Westminster Christian will host a regional that also includes Christian Liberty, St. Gregory, Hebron, South Beloit and North Shore Country Day. Then, regional winners from Lanark-Eastland, Lena-Winslow and Ashton-Franklin Center will come to Elgin to play in the Westminster sectional. The sectional winner faces the Gardner-South Wilmington sectional winner at the Benedictine supersectional.
