Judson to host Class 3-4A super doubleheader
The Illinois High School Association released assignments for the softball postseason this week and while there are some changes from last year, the most significant news is that Judson University will host a supersectional doubleheader and the Class 4A super at Judson will match the winners of the Huntley and St. Charles North sectionals.
Monday, June 7 will be the day for the Class 3A and 4A supersectionals. The starting time for the twinbill at Judson has yet to be determined.
Here's how the postseason stacks up for Fox Valley area teams.
Class 4A: Cary-Grove, Hononegah, Huntley and Streamwood will host the regionals that feed to the Huntley sectional and the Rockford factor again has those regional participants predetermined.
The Streamwood regional is just 4 teams - Elgin, Larkin, Streamwood and Hoffman Estates - while the other regionals each have 5 teams.
Crystal Lake South, Grant, McHenry and Round Lake will join the host Trojans at Cary-Grove, while Jacobs, Dundee-Crown and Rockford Jefferson will join Huntley at Huntley. The Hononegah regional includes the host school, Harlem, Rockford Auburn, Rockford Guilford and Rockford Boylan.
Huntley is a two-time regional champion. The Red Raiders lost to Hononegah in last year's sectional semifinals.
The St. Charles North sectional, which is set up in the sectional complex, is loaded. Bartlett and South Elgin are in the field, which also includes top teams such as Elk Grove, Glenbard North, Lake Park, West Chicago, St. Charles East and the host North Stars.
Bartlett advanced out of this sectional last year before falling to Naperville Central in the supersectional.
Regional hosts of the SCN sectional are Geneva, Elk Grove, Willowbrook and West Chicago.
Class 3A: For the first time since the IHSA began the 4-class system, Burlington Central and Kaneland won't be in the same regional. Kaneland was sent to Sycamore, while Burlington will join St. Viator, Wheaton Academy, St. Francis and the host Whip-Purs in what stacks up to be a very tough regional.
Burlington Central finished third in last year's Class 3A state tournament.
The Hampshire regional winner advances to the DeKalb sectional, along with regional winners from Sycamore, Sterling and Sandwich. The DeKalb sectional winner then meets the Prairie Ridge sectional champ in the Marengo supersectional.
Class 2A: St. Edward, which has won two straight regionals, has been assigned to the Lisle regional, which will be played at Benedictine University. The Green Wave will be joined by Immaculate Conception, Luther North, Chicago Notre Dame, Willows Academy and the host Lions in the regional. Lisle also hosts the sectional at Benedictine, which will include regional winners from Lisle, Timothy Christian, Westmont and St. Scholastica. The Lisle sectional winner then meets the Rock Falls sectional champ in the NIU supersectional.
Class 1A: Westminster Christian has been assigned to the Serena regional.
