Harper football schedule takes odd twist
As a result of last week’s on-field fight between College of DuPage and Joliet Junior College football game, Harper’s game against Joliet was canceled this weekend.
The Hawks found another willing partner, though, and have scheduled a game against the North Park JV teams for 2 p.m. today.
“They’re making strides and improving,” said Harper coach Eric Waldstein said of a North Park team that has yet to win a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game this season.
Just getting the game set up turned out to be the hardest part for Harper.
“I thought it was going to be a little easier than it was,” Waldstein said. “It’s tough to throw things together on that short a notice.”
The Vikings won their first three games this season but have dropped their last three. Waldstein believes North Park will run an option offense and a 3-4 defense.
If the Hawks can win their next two games, including today’s game, they’d earn a spot in the Graphic Edge bowl. That would be a boost to his sophomores who are still trying to draw interest from four-year schools.
“There’s somewhere between 20 and 35 (four-year schools) scouting when you’re at those bowl games,” Waldstein said.
