American Cancer Society seeks teams for three annual Relay For Life events in McHenry County

The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams of local families, businesses, schools, places of worship, and the community to participate in one of three local Relay For Life events: South McHenry County on June 3 at Immanuel Lutheran, 300 S. Pathway Court in Crystal Lake; Huntley on June 10 at Huntley Park District, 12015 Mill St.; and North McHenry County on June 25 at McHenry Township Park, 3703 N. Richmond Road in Johnsburg.

Relay For Life participants are committed to help save more lives from cancer by raising funds for the society.

The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Relay For Life events are community gatherings where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Teams raise funds before and during the event.

Last year, more than 500 people participated in the Relay For Life events in McHenry County alone and raised more than $120,000.

"Relay For Life is a chance to make a great impact in the fight to end cancer," said Kaitlin Thompson, community manager of Relay For Life. "Many participants have faced cancer themselves. Each new team brings us one step closer to saving more lives."
