Lake Co. Family YMCA offers Carefree 5K Oct. 1
If you've never done a 5K run or walk before and want to do so, the Lake County Family YMCA is offering you the perfect chance Saturday, Oct. 1.
The 3.1 mile run or walk will start at 8 a.m. at the Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.
“We're offering this 5K with a relaxed focus that will be perfect for people who are new to races. Let us be your first 5K. We welcome children, families and active older adults,” Lake County Family YMCA Health & Wellness Director Clair Pauschert said.
“To get participants ready, we've developed a six-week cardiovascular schedule to help people build up their endurance to either run or walk the 3.1 miles,” she added. The YMCA's kids boot camp and active mature adult classes and their instructors will be doing the 5K.
“This is a great inter-generational event with an emphasis on healthy living. Grandma can do the race with her daughter and granddaughter,” Pauschert explained.
The route will be along a paved path close to the Y, and the event will take place rain or shine.
Cost is $10 for people 16 and older or $5 for persons 15 and younger. Participants will get a T-shirt.
To register or for more information, call Pauschert at (847) 996-6322 or email cpauschert@ymcalakecounty.org
