Tuesday's Fox Valley boys basketball roundup

Dundee-Crown shut down host Johnsburg 48-21 in a Fox Valley Conference crossover matchup Tuesday.

Senior Ryan Smith led the Chargers (3-1) with 14 points against the short-handed Skyhawks (1-4), who played without senior Mike Dombrowski and dropped their fourth straight ballgame.

The Chargers led 24-10 at halftime and were never challenged.

"We started well with a 6-0 lead and played a pretty solid game overall," Dundee-Crown coach Lance Huber said. "We did what we had to do to go in there and win."

Marshawn Brown pulled down 8 rebounds for Dundee-Crown.

Crystal Lake Central 67, Cary-Grove 54: The Trojans (2-4) were within 29-27 at halftime, but the Tigers took control in the third quarter of this Fox Valley Conference crossover matchup in Crystal Lake. Nick Richter paced the Trojans with a game-high 21 points. Matt Aulert and Jon Guay chipped in 9 and 7 points, respectively.

Hampshire 69, Winnebago 40: Junior center Tyler Watzlawick and sophomore guard Tyler Crater each scored 18 points and senior forward Pat Dumoulin added 13 points to lead the Whip-Purs (3-2) in a nonconference route at Winnebago. It was the third straight victory for Hampshire.

Westminster Christian 57, Chicagoland Jewish 44: In a rematch of last year's Class 1A regional title game, the visiting Warriors gained a measure of revenge against Chicagoland Jewish, which won the regional title on the Warriors' home court last season.

Senior center Ian Dutcher and point guard Brandon Cork each scored 18 points and Luke Carani chipped in with 10 points to lead the Warriors (5-1).

"We had a 7-point lead most of the second half," Westminster Christian coach Bruce Firchau said. "They pulled within 40-33 at one point, but we responded very well."

Westminster Christian sank 15 of 17 free-throw attempts.

South Elgin 61, Aurora Central Catholic 52: The visiting Storm snapped a 3-game losing skid with a nonconference victory in Aurora. Seniors Dillon Gardner (17 points), Sam Sutter (14) and Martin Duarte (12) led the way for South Elgin (3-4).
