St. Edward to play in Larkin Slugfest
St. Edward will join the field Saturday at the 17th Annual Larkin Slugfest softball tournament.
The Green Wave will replace Lincoln-Way Central, which chose to not attend this year's tournament.
St. Edward (9-4) will assume Lincoln-Way Central's No. 3 seed and play No. 6 seed Johnsburg in the first round at 10 a.m.
The tournament is held at the Elgin Sports Complex.
Cary-Grove 12, Dundee-Crown 2: Freshman Lindsay Efflandt scattered 3 hits and Taylor Dunne went 3-for-3 with a grand slam home run, a triple and 5 RBI as Cary-Grove remained undefeated in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division with a 12-2 win over Dundee-Crown Monday. Eleni Polites was 3-for-4 with a double for the Trojans (11-5, 5-0). Jessica Lewandowski had a triple for Dundee-Crown and Amanda Eissler suffered the loss for the Chargers (0-10, 0-5).
Larkin 6, East Aurora 1: Corrine Wimmer was 2-for-4 and Kelsey Lodge had a double and 2 RBI as Larkin (5-9, 3-2) won in the Upsttate Eight Conference. Alex Buhrow, Sam King and Anna Esterino each had doubles and RBI for the Royals. Kiernan Schock (2-4) allowed just 3 hits in earning the win.
Burlington Central 4, North Boone 0: Sam Bruner had a triple and an RBI and Cassie Warner a double and 2 RBI to lead the Rockets (6-5, 2-1) to a Big Northern East victory. Emily Bell also went 2-for-3 for the Rockets. Jet Kein picked up the win in the circle.
IC 8, St. Edward 5: The Green Wave (9-4, 3-1) committed 4 errors and junior Sarah Field (8-3) allowed 13 hits as St. Edward suffered its first Suburban Christian Conference loss of the season. Kristina Brockner was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Wave, while Veronica Rolando had 2 RBI. Kali Kossakowski and Kristi Knott each doubled and BreAunna Medinger drove in a run.
