For Glenbard Dist. 87: Malcolm, Trefelik, Sebby

Daily Herald Editorial Board

Glenbard High School District 87 voters have four worthy candidates to choose from for three four-year terms on the school board. Board President Rose Malcolm is running for a fourth term, while Tom Trefelik and Steven Sebby both are seeking second terms. Mary Ozog, a concerned parent, former transportation planner and current substitute teacher in District 87, also is a solid candidate. The board has been grappling with the sensitive issue of whether to install outdoor lighting at Glenbard West, and will have to come to a decision ultimately. And while that is a critical issue especially for those who live near the landlocked school, the school board has many other urgent challenges ahead, as it deals with financial challenges, curriculum issues and, next year, negotiating a new contract with teachers for the one that expires in August 2012. We endorse Malcolm, Trefelik and Sebby with the goal of retaining their experience and commitment for the challenges of the next four years.
