'Pirates of Penzance' at The Mac March 27

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players present a rollicking production of “Pirates of Penzance” at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 27, on the Mainstage of the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., in Glen Ellyn.

The fifth of Gilbert and Sullivan's many collaborations, “Pirates of Penzance” is the story of young Frederic - a young man mistakenly apprenticed to pirates until his 21st birthday. As the day, and his ultimate freedom, approaches, Frederic discovers he actually has another 63 years to serve because he was born on Feb. 29 – a leap year. His only solace is that his love, Mabel, agrees to wait for him faithfully.

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players is a professional repertory dedicated to exposing audiences to the living legacy of Gilbert and Sullivan through performance and education. Group members perform a number of famed works each season.

The March 27 performance includes a pre-performance lecture at 2 p.m. in Room 139.

Tickets to “Pirates of Penzance” are $42 for adults, $40 for seniors and $32 for College of DuPage students and youth.
