Girls basketball / Lake County roundup

Grayslake Central’s girls basketball team officially dethroned Johnsburg as champions of the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division on Friday night, but it wasn’t easy.

The visiting Rams won 56-51, rallying from a 43-39 deficit after three quarters.

Skyler Jessop sank a 3-pointer and conventional basket in the fourth for Grayslake Central (22-2, 11-0), which ran its winning streak to 20 games.

Jessop and Rebekah Llorens each scored 15 points for the Rams, while Alex Scarbro finished with 13. Kat Dickson (6 points) hit a pair of shots in the fourth, which saw the visitors outscore the Skyhawks 17-8.

Johnsburg’s Melissa Dixon had 24 points.

Libertyville 54, Mundelein 36: Savannah Trees’ 11 points, including a 3-pointer, led the undefeated Wildcats to the North Suburban Lake win.

Jackie Hansen added 9 points for Libertyville, which improved to 24-0 and 11-0 in the NSC Lake.

Mundelein (12-14, 3-8) was led by Amanda Davis’ 12 points and Olivia Dunigan’s nine.

Grant 36, Antioch 33: The Bulldogs kept alive their slim hopes in the North Suburban Prairie, while eliminating the Sequoits.

Grant (9-13, 6-3), which trails first-place Wauconda (9-1) by 2 games in the loss column, received a game-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers, from Donnie Taggart.

Andi Potkonjak had 10 points and Nicole Kelly grabbed 10 rebounds for Antioch (14-8, 5-4), which lost its second in a row after 10 straight wins.
