Carol Stream Rotary Club adopts needy senior for $800
The Humanitarian Service Project has received $800 from the Rotary Club of Carol Stream towards a sponsorship of a needy senior in HSP's Senior Citizen Project. The club, which meets on Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Carol Stream, has been supporting HSP's numerous programs since 1996 which lives up to the Rotary Foundation's slogan “service above self.”
In addition to sponsoring a senior this year, the club has donated over $4,000 worth of food to be distributed to families in the HSP's Christmas Offering Project. The Rotary Club of Carol Stream has been holding an annual food drive for HSP since they began partnering with the organization over 10 years ago. The club has donated money for numerous sponsorships of needy seniors in SCP as well as sponsorships of children in the Childrens Birthday Project (CBP). The Rotary Club is also not a stranger to HSP's warehouse as they often come in to volunteer their time and help with a variety of tasks that support all of the charity's projects.
The Rotary Club of Carol Stream is firmly devoted to the Rotary Foundation's slogan “service above self.” Besides supporting HSP and other local endeavors, the club has been very involved in serving internationally. They are currently involved in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program which gives over 8,000 teens every year the chance to experience a different culture, country and ideas . The club has engaged in service as part of their commitment to the mission of the Rotary Foundation, which is, to bring understanding, goodwill, and peace to the world through the promotion of health and education and the alleviation of poverty.
The Club's donation will give one of the 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project a monthly delivery of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products, for a year. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and Christmas gifts over the holidays.
Karole Kettering, HSP Founder and Executive Director, is glad to have the dedicated support of the Rotary Club of Carol Stream saying “they have been wonderful partners with HSP for over 14 years in alleviating the pain that poverty brings.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
