Alpha Mu Gamma holds Japanese tea ceremony Oct. 26

The College of DuPage chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma, the National Foreign Language Honor Society, will host a “Japanese Tea Ceremony” at the College on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Student Services Center, Room 1225. This session is free and open to the community.

Participants will learn how a Japanese tea master prepares tea, including a step-by-step procedure of this traditional ceremony. The philosophy and esthetics behind the ceremony will also be discussed.

According to EasternTea.com, “The essence of the Japanese tea ceremony is harmony. Every move or every component about the ceremony brings out the serenity of the whole. The host tries to keep the natural state of things as much as possible. For example, the master might place some leaves in the garden stones in order to preserve the natural beauty of the garden.”
