Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Catie Sherman scored 2 goals Tuesday night to lead Jacobs' girls soccer team to a 4-2 win over Sycamore in the opening round of the Pepsi Showdown.

The 12th-seeded Golden Eagles (7-3-2) will play at New Trier at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Amy Rigby and Jess Tennant each added a goal in the win for Jacobs. Kylie Dennison chipped in 2 assists and Alyssa Koeppler turned away 2 shots on goal.

Wheaton Warrenville South 2, Huntley 0: The Red Raiders (5-3-2) could not get on the scoreboard as they fell at the Pepsi Showdown. Jessica Galason and Kelli Rubino combined for 5 saves in goal for the Red Raiders. Huntley will play a consolation bracket game at Deerfield at 5 p.m. Thursday.

St. Edward 5, Immaculate Conception 1: The Green Wave (3-3) surged to an early 4-1 halftime lead and never looked back as they picked up a Suburban Christian Conference victory. Allison Kruk recorded a hat trick while Monica Ramirez and Kimmy Smith added the other 2 goals. Paige Gannon turned away 1 shot on goal and Paige Dykstra made 2 stops in goal for the Green Wave.

Lake Park 3, South Elgin 0: The Storm (7-4) were unable to find the back of the net as they were defeated at home in Upstate Eight Valley action. Jordan Valkner recorded 3 saves in goal.

Batavia 7, Elgin 0: Marcela Mascota recorded 15 saves in goal, but the Maroons (0-8) fell to Batavia in this Upstate Eight River matchup.

Burlington Central 9, North Boone 0: The Rockets (5-4, 1-0) wasted little time as they easily handled North Boone in Big Northern East play. Maddie Stoneman (3 assists) and Alison Colby each recorded hat tricks while Alyssa Messina scored 2 goals and Cali Andrew found the back of the net as well. Camille Dela Cruz added 3 assists and Lexi Kern 1 assist. Caitlin Solberg earned the shut out in goal as she turned away 2 shots on goal.

Cary-Grove 4, Grayslake Central 1: The Trojans (4-4-1) used a balanced scoring attack as they defeated Grayslake Central at home. Korey Kronforst found the back of the net twice while Allison Budreck and Kate Boyd each recorded 1 goal. Paige Lincicum stopped 1 shot on goal.

St. Charles North 8, Larkin 0: Diana Hernandez turned away 10 shots on goal, but it wasn't enough as the Royals (1-8-1, 0-2) fell to the North Stars in Upstate Eight River action.

Bartlett 8, East Aurora 1: Nicole Gobbo (4 assists), Nikki Noreen, and Natalia Grodzki recorded 2 goals a piece as they paced the Hawks (7-3-1, 1-0) to a decisive victory in Upstate Eight Valley play. Jess Cosentino and Brittney VanNess recorded the Hawks other 2 goals. Grodzki and Amanda Lozada combined for 2 saves total.

Kaneland 6, Westminster Christian 0: The Warriors (3-2) were no match for the Knights as they were defeated at the West Aurora Tournament. Savannah Dutcher recorded 25 saves in goal for the Warriors.

Crystal Lake South 2, Crystal Lake Central 1: The Gators were able to punch in the game-winning goal in the second half as they defeated the Tigers 2-1 in this Fox Valley Conference crossover match. Erin Woeste and Cella Albuqerque recorded 1 goal each while Lauren Perrine added an assist. Gianna DiSarno stopped 3 shots on goal for the Gators.

Dundee-Crown 4, Woodstock 1: The Chargers (1-9) picked up their first victory of the season as they defeated Woodstock in a Fox Valley Conference crossover match. Jill Wiechmann, Jordan Fryer, Brittney Gantz, and Emi Conejo all scored for the Chargers while Ali Sanders recorded 5 saves in goal.
