Riverfront project info:The North Aurora River District Alliance is holding an information night from 7 to 9 tonight at Messenger Public Library, 113 Oak St., North Aurora. NOARDA will also program the riverfront space with events to ensure that it is a festive and vibrant community gathering space.ECC immigrant series:Author Irina Reyn will speak today at Elgin Community College as part of the college's lecture series, "Immigrant Women: Voices of Identity and Assimilation." Reyn's talk begins at 11 a.m. in the Advanced Technology Center Auditorium, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The Russian immigrant will speak about trials and challenges faced by immigrant women. She won the Goldberg Prize for Jewish Fiction by Emerging Writers for her novel, "What Happened to Anna K.?" in 2008. The event is free. Island Ave. Free popcorn and drinks for those who bring their own reusable containers. "No Impact Man," about a family that does without electricity, carryout food and disposable items, buying anything new and eating only local food for a year. The movie is for people 12 and older. Main St. The performance will include a blend of contemporary and classical styles, and feature music from "The Hours" soundtrack by American composer Philip Glass and "The Forrest Gump Suite" by Alan Silvestri. Call (630) 777-2955.Teaming up to support troops:Residents of Alden Gardens of Waterford Assisted Living Community in Aurora recently partnered with the Aurora Kiwanis Club and Cub Scout Pack 569 from Homestead Elementary School in Oswego to put together care packages for troops stationed overseas. Throughout February, Alden Gardens residents, family members and staff donated nonperishable food and personal items for the project. On Feb. 23, the Scouts joined the seniors to write personalized thank-you letters and create banners to accompany each care package.
