Stevenson pulls out a win
Stevenson’s baseball team used late-game heroics for the second day in a row to pull out another victory Thursday.
Eli Greenspon’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Patriots to a 2-1 win over Crystal Lake South. Stevenson (3-1) had rallied from a 4-0 deficit going into the seventh inning to defeat host Palatine on Wednesday.
Greenspon threw 3 innings of 3-hit ball, allowing no runs and striking out four to get the win. He is the brother of former Stevenson star and current Stetson University freshman Isaac Greenspon. Patriots starter Jon Savarise pitched 6 innings, yielding 2 hits, striking out five and walking two.
Scott Robin paced the Stevenson offense, going 2-for-3. Zach Novoselsky’s double was the Patriots’ lone extra-base hit.
Crystal Lake South (4-4) got a triple from Tommy Gaede and a double from Tyler Salm.
Grant 4, Crystal Lake Central 3: Jake Ring went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and his seventh stolen base in four games, as the Bulldogs won on their home diamond.
Simeon Lucas was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for Grant (2-2), which scored the go-ahead run in the sixth. He also pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out four. Brent Spohr (1-0) picked up the win, fanning two in 2 scoreless innings of relief.
Antioch 8, Johnsburg 5: Adam Harvey went 3-for-4, and Nick Muskat was 2-for-3, as the Sequoits won the nonconference game.
Harvey and Muskat each had an RBI. Dan Arden allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run over 6 innings, striking out nine and walking two for Antioch (3-1).
