Choir to present holiday concert

Submitted by Tree of Life

The Adult Choir at Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, under the direction of Thomas Steffens, will present its annual holiday concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the church, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry.

This late afternoon event will feature the 25-voice choir in song and words. A brass quartet will join the choir to perform songs from different traditions, both sacred and secular.

“We are excited to offer a program at a time when the whole community can enjoy it,” said Steffens, the congregation’s music director.

Featured soloists will include Carrie MacDonald, who has been featured in Woodstock Opera House productions and tenor Ken Johnson. There also will be performances by the men’s and women’s ensembles of the choir.

Among the diverse selections will be traditional carols like “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “O, Holy Night;” contemporary choral music arranged by Thomas Steffens, songs from “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown;” novelty songs; and a moving version of John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas/War is Over.”

Admission to the concert is free. There will be a freewill offering taken to support the work of the congregation.

A reception will follow the concert. Child care will be available during the concert and reception. For information, visit treeoflifeuu.org or the Facebook page.
