Four finalists for Sheahan’s DuPage board post
Four candidates will make their pitch next week for why they should be appointed to fill former DuPage County Board member Brien Sheahan’s seat until after the fall election.
Sheahan resigned last month from his District 2 post, leaving county board Chairman Dan Cronin with the task of finding someone to finish Sheahan’s term, which ends Nov. 30.
On Friday, Cronin announced he has asked four of the 13 people who applied for the vacancy to participate in a District 2 candidate forum, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Elmhurst city hall, 209 N. York St.
The four candidates invited to the forum are Michael Ledonne of Lombard, William Mulligan of Downers Grove, Cathy Ficker Terrill of Elmhurst and Zachary Wilson of Lombard.
“It’s wonderful to see so many community-minded people who wish to join the county board’s government reform effort,” Cronin said in a statement. “I look forward to learning more about these four applicants during the forum.”
Cronin is planning to name his choice for Sheahan’s replacement in time for the full county board to take a Feb. 28 vote on the appointment.
Wilson, who is a Lombard trustee, is among eight candidates seeking the GOP nomination for one of three District 2 seats on the board during the March 20 primary.
The other Republican challengers are: Mike Loftus of Lisle; Rafael Rivadeneira of Elmhurst; Sean Noonan of Elmhurst; Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni; Jim Long of Downers Grove; Charles Mueller of Elmhurst; and Oak Brook Trustee Elaine Zannis.
The three GOP primary winners will face Democrat Elizabeth “Liz” Chaplin of Downers Grove during the November general election.
District 2 includes all or parts of Addison, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Villa Park, Westmont and Woodridge.
