Fracek helps Antioch edge Grant
Sophomore Alex Fracek sank the winning basket with 14 seconds left, lifting Antioch’s girls basketball team to 47-45 win over visiting Grant on Saturday.
It was Fracek’s only basket of the game.
Antioch improved to 11-11 and 7-2 in the North Suburban Prairie Division, while Grant fell to 5-14 and 4-4.
Sarah Huebner and Melanie Lass led Antioch with 10 points apiece. Huebner also grabbed 8 rebounds. Lindsey Gofron added 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and also hit a 3-pointer. Lass and Megan Borries (7 points) each made a pair of 3s for the Sequoits.
Morgan Jahnke led Grant with 12 points. The Bulldogs received 8 points apiece from Tania Trbojevich, Kassie Stimpson and Brittany Glover.
Carmel 47, Nazareth 21: Cassidy Kloss and Sarah McHugh each scored 10 points, and the Corsairs cruised in their East Suburban Catholic Conference home game.
Kloss and Madeline Felipez each sank a 3-pointer for Carmel (13-8, 3-3), which extended its winning streak to a season-best four games.
Round Lake 54, Northtown Academy 28: Adrianna Pitts scored a season-high 18 points, and the Panthers cruised in their nonconference home game.
Round Lake (5-17) led 11-5 after one quarter, 29-17 at halftime and 49-22 after three. The Panthers received 9 points apiece from Kaylee Parlogean and Aaliyah Chastang.
Trinity 67, Vernon Hills 34: The Blazers, the sixth-ranked team in the Class 4A Associated Press poll, improved to 18-1.
Trinity built a 20-9 lead after one quarter and was ahead 35-19 at halftime.
Lauren Webb scored 13 points and was the only double-digit scorer for Vernon Hills (16-3), which had its five-game winning streak halted. Sydney Smith had 7 points, including a 3-pointer, for the Cougars.
