Conservancy seeks farmland for lease
The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, a nonprofit land preservation organization in McHenry County, is looking to increase its listings of land for lease as part of its Farmer Match Program.
The goal of the program is to help small or beginning farmers find land for their operations.
Landowners with farm available for lease may contact The Land Conservancy for an application.
Parcels are then listed on The Conservancy's website at www.conservemc.org.
Interested farmers may contact The Conservancy if they find a parcel that meets their requirements, and the match is made with the landowner.
Aside from helping a sustainable farmer, landowners may benefit from the Farmer Match Program in a number of ways, such as lower property taxes, improved soil quality, rental income and a share of the produce.
With the growth of farmers' markets, farm stands and CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture), consumers are proving that there is a demand for locally produced food in McHenry County.
