Berkshire Ballet Theatre to present 'Classical to Contemporary'

From classical ballet to moving contemporary, the Berkshire Ballet Theatre will deliver a dazzling, must-see performance when it presents "Classical to Contemporary."

The show is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. Tickets are available online at RaueCenter.org.

"Classical to Contemporary" will feature dancers from the pre-professional Berkshire Ballet Theatre, as well as the Starr Dancers, the theater's preparatory company.

The performance will include excerpts from "Coppélia," a humorous and lighthearted ballet about a beautiful, lifelike doll and her creator. The comic ballet features music by Léo Delibes.

"The storyline and the dance choreography promise to be great entertainment for the whole family," said Victoria Summers, founder of the Berkshire Ballet Theatre, Starr Dancers and executive director of Summers Academy of Dance, 5186 Northwest Hwy., Suite 115, Crystal Lake.

Excerpts from "Carnival of the Animals," which has become one of French composer/conductor Camille Saint-Saëns' best-known works, also will be presented.

The selected contemporary dance pieces from the Berkshire Ballet Theatre Repertoire are spectacular and deliver a dazzling visual performance that will capture the audience's imagination.

"Classical to Contemporary" provides the perfect opportunity for aspiring dancers to see firsthand what the Berkshire Ballet Theatre dancers are learning and offers a glimpse of what it's like to be a member of this prestigious dance company.
