  A person gracefully slides or drifts around a corner riding an "ice motorcycle" on a small frozen pond Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026 in Mount Prospect. According to American Motorcyclist riding a motorcycle on ice seems like it would be impossible, but after you add a few-hundred traction screws to the front and rear tires, you’ll experience traction levels as good as the best dirt or even asphalt tracks.   IDOT will begin replacing the Rand Road Bridge over the Des Plaines River in Des Plaines next month. The two-phase, roughly $18 million project includes roadway reconstruction and widening, traffic signal modernization, drainage improvements, lighting improvements, water main improvements, and construction of a new multi-use path and landscaping between Ballard Road and Elk Boulevard in Des Plaines.
