Briefs: New fire truck in Lombard

The Lombard Fire Department will put a new 100-foot aerial ladder truck into service on Wednesday. The public is invited to view the truck at Fire Station 2, 2020 S. Highland Ave. The new ladder truck replaces a 1988 model ladder truck that was recently sold to another department.

Roselle leader honored

The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association recently announced. John K. Butts, superintendent of Lake Park High School District 108 in Roselle, as the winner of its 2007 Community Support Award. He was honored for the roles he has played in the community and his service to the nonprofit organization, especially in assisting with a variety of fundraising efforts. The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association offers recreational opportunities to people with disabilities. It is a cooperative extension of nine park districts in the Western suburbs of Chicago. They include Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield.

Dist. 204 meeting canceled

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 has canceled this morning's school board meeting to discuss possible locations for Metea Valley High School. The meeting was scheduled to be a closed session discussion among board members followed by time for public comment. It has one week left to decide if it will purchase the Brach-Brodie property off Route 59 near 75th Street and Commons Drive in Aurora as originally planned. The school board will hold an open business meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Dr., Aurora.

Parishes fight poverty

Members of six Naperville parishes will participate in a walk and educational event to battle poverty from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at All Saints Catholic Academy, 1188 Aurora Ave., Naperville. The special guest will be Carole Zemont, who recently returned from a missionary trip to Dakar, Senegal. Activities will include a multi-parish outdoor prayer service, a 1ΒΌ-mile walk and several information stations. The Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association recently presented an award of excellence to Susan Redell, director of learning for Medinah Elementary District 11. The award is given to recognize excellence in communication. School districts submit their publications, Web sites or any campaign literature. A panel of judges reviews the entries and chooses a winner every year.
