Here's a sampling of where to find sledding and tobogganing in the suburbs.

DuPage County

Bloomingdale

Bloomingdale Park District offers sledding at Westlake Park, 307 Edgewater Drive, Bloomingdale. For details, call (630) 529-3650.

Naperville

Naperville Park District's sled hills are open Dec. 1 through Feb. 29, weather permitting. Sledding is available at Arrowhead Park, Brook Crossings, Gartner Park, May Watts Park, Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk, Springhill Park and Country Lakes Community Park. Snowboarding is allowed only at Weigand Riverfront Park. Ice skating is allowed after 72 hours of consecutive temperatures of 15 degrees or below. The warming house at Centennial Park, which has two lighted hockey rinks and a free lighted skating area, opens Dec. 15. There also is a community rink for free skating at Gartner Park.

Warrenville

Tubing is offered when there is at least 3 inches of snow on Mount Hoy in Blackwell Forest Preserve, Butterfield Road west of Winfield Road in Warrenville. When conditions are favorable, tubing is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends through February. The hill is closed Christmas Day but open some school holidays. Only forest preserve district inner tubes are permitted and may be rented for $4 per tube per day. Tube rental ends at 3:30 p.m. To hear current tubing conditions, call the district's outdoor report at (630) 871-6422.

Fox Valley

Fabyan Forest Preserve, south of Geneva with entrances on Route 25 and Route 31, just north of Fabyan Parkway. Call (630-232-5980).

Glacial Park Conservation Area, off Harts Road and Route 31, near Ringwood

Johnson's Mound Forest Preserve, on Hughes Road, about 1 mile west of Fabyan Parkway. Call (630) 232-5980).

Langum Park, 999 S. 7th Ave., St. Charles. Call (630) 584-1055.

Oakhurst Forest Preserve, on Fifth Avenue about a half-mile east of Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora. Call (630) 232-5980).

Lake County

Lake Zurich

Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road. Sledding hill.

Libertyville

Old School Forest Preserve near Libertyville. Entrance and parking area on St. Mary's Road just south of Route 176 and north of Route 60 (Townline Road). Sledding hill open until one hour after sunset every day. No sleds with metal runners or snowboards. Round Lake

Hart's Hill Park, 761 Hart Road. Sledding hill.

Wauconda

Lakewood Forest Preserve Winter Sports Area near Wauconda. Main entrance on Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road. Sledding hill. Lighted and open until 7 p.m. every day. For current conditions visit www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cfm or call the county's winter sports hotline at (847) 968-3235.

Northwest suburbs

Arlington Heights

• Heritage Park, 506 W. Victoria Lane. Lighted sled hill and one toboggan chute. Only plastic sleds and tubes allowed.

• Green Slopes Park, Douglas Avenue and Marion. Lighted sled hill; no supervision or warming shelter.

• Sunset Meadows I, Wilke and Kirchoff roads. Sled hill, no supervision or warming shelter.

• Nickol Knoll, 3800 N. Kennicott Ave. Sled hill, no supervision or warming shelter.

Bartlett

Leiseberg Park, 285 E. Devon. Sledding hill. Permitted only dawn to dusk. Parents are responsible for children; no supervision is provided.

Des Plaines

Arndt Park, White Avenue and Howard Street. Sledding hill.

Elk Grove Village

• Udall Park, on Willow Lane. Sledding hill.

• Roosevelt Park, Somerset Lane and Brandywine Avenue. Sledding hill.

Hanover Park

On the grounds of the Hanover Park Park District headquarters, 1919 Walnut St. Lighted sled hill, also good for tobogganing.

Hoffman Estates

• Pine Park, 750 Charleston. Sledding hill

• Seascape Aquatic Center, 1300 Moon Lake Blvd. near the golf course. Sledding hill.

Mount Prospect

Woodland Trails Park (River Trails Park District), north of Euclid Ave. on Wolf Road. Skis, snowboards not permitted. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Palatine

• Deer Grove Forest Preserve, on Quentin Road, north of Dundee Road. Sled hill, but no toboggan run (all county forest preserve toboggan runs are closed).

• Margreth Reimer Reservoir, Wood, Quentin and Palatine roads. Sledding hill.

• Palatine Hills Park, Northwest Highway and Deer Run Drive. Sledding hill.

Rolling Meadows

North Salk Park, 3160 Owl Drive. Sledding hill.

Schaumburg

Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E Weathersfield Way. Sledding hill.
