McHenry County Historical Society and Museum notes

McHenry County Historical Society and Museum will feature an Abraham Lincoln exhibit in its mobile museum "The James" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 13. This first public showing takes place during the society's annual Heritage Fair at the museum, 6422 Main St. in Union.

In 2009, Illinois will celebrate Lincoln's 200th birthday with special programs, events and projects held statewide. McHenry County already has a Lincoln Celebration Committee working on next year's programs.

Museum curator Grace Moline chose "Lincoln the Man" as the theme for The James exhibit which will center on Lincoln as an individual, husband and father. Besides interpreting the Lincoln personality, Moline will provide McHenry County connections to him. The Village of Richmond, for example, was home to three individuals who had ties to Lincoln. The exhibit is interactive and will travel throughout the county next year. To see it first, come to the free Heritage Fair.
