Briefs: Warrenville backs Fermilab

Warrenville aldermen Monday night passed a resolution supporting Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, which employs 70 city residents. In late December, city officials learned of potential budget cuts that may impact Fermilab's future in the region. The federal budget, which is expected to pass later this week, eliminates $90 million in funding for high energy physics. It's expected that Fermilab will have to lay off some 200 employees to meet the approved budget guidelines. The resolution also requests that Congress provide a supplemental appropriation that would allow Fermilab to continue its work and prevent massive layoffs. Monday's action was the result of a cooperative effort between Mayor David Brummel, Aurora Mayor Thomas Weisner and Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke.
