Harper's Vilsoet reaches 200-win mark
Just before Harper women's volleyball coach Bob Vilsoet's first game as coach of the Hawks, he had a conversation with athletic director Doug Spiwak.
That conversation led to Spiwak joke with Vilsoet: "If you get 200 wins, you automatically become part of the NJCAA record book."
Well, you can put Vilsoet in the book.
On Friday afternoon, the Hawks defeated College of Lake County in the inaugural Harper Invite 25-23, 19-25, 15-11.
There were no cheers for Vilsoet. In fact, the only player who knew about the feat was Chicago State transfer Alexandra Mason, who promptly gave her coach a hug.
"I didn't think I would get here," the eight-year coach said of the milestone. "It is not about me, it is about the girls."
"Bob is a good coach - it's good for him," said Harper team captain Katie Spychala.
