Scouting Grant @ Wauconda

Grant (2-3, 2-1) at Wauconda (2-3, 1-1)

When 1 p.m. Saturday

Last week Grant def. Antioch, 27-21; Wauconda lost to Mundelein, 18-9.

Skinny After starting out 0-3, Grant has rebounded nicely with two straight wins, including a win over defending North Suburban Prairie Division champion Antioch last week. With another win, the Bulldogs bolster their position even more in the race for this year's title, but then again, so does Wauconda. "This is a very important game for Grant and for us," Wauconda coach Dave Mills said. "Because with one (division) loss, you're still very much in it."- Grant had 400 total yards last week (274 rushing and 126 passing), thanks in part to a big game by running back Leo Minne. He rolled up 108 yards on 17 carries and also scored 2 touchdowns. He also completed both of his passes on the halfback option, which caught Antioch off guard. "Every time Grant needed a big play, he was able to run the sweep and get it," Mills said of Minne. "And he had those passes. Grant just did a great job of keeping things alive last week."-Wauconda, meanwhile, kind of fizzled as last week's game against Mundelein wore on. In a deep, sloppy mud, the Bulldogs managed to hold a 9-6 lead through three quarters. But they allowed Mundelein to score 12 points in the fourth quarter. On the game, Wauconda got only 4 first downs and 95 total yards. "The last couple of weeks, we've been down some offensive linemen to injury," Mills said. "It makes a difference in terms of what you can do with your offense because everything starts and stops with those guys." Wauconda's only points last week came on an 18-yard field goal by Kevin Carpentier and an 18-yard touchdown pass from Brian Kent to sophomore Steve Ziolkowski.
