Kyle Kinyon and Daniel Kogut each went 2-for-3 with a run batted as South Elgin upended Streamwood 6-2 in an Upstate Eight Conference baseball game at South Elgin Tuesday.
Ben Irving (1-1) picked up the win for the Storm (13-10-1, 10-7-1) as he held the Sabres to 2 runs on 8 hits and struck out three in 7 innings.
Brian Brauer went 2-for-3 with a walk, and pitcher Mike Diebold struck out nine and allowed just 6 hits for Streamwood (13-11-2, 12-7).
St. Edward 13, Immaculate Conception 12: David Hoebbel went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and 5 RBI, Anthony Bauer finished 3-for-4 with a double and Jordan Torres (3-for-5, HR) drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the seventh as St. Edward (14-10, 7-4) scored twice in its last at-bat to win a Suburban Catholic Conference slugfest at Wing Park in Elgin.
Larkin 12, East Aurora 0: Junior Ivan Bello (1-0) held the Tomcats to 4 hits in 5 innings, walking three and striking out six, and junior Jon Meidel went 2-for-3 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI to lead Larkin (16-12, 11-6) to a six-inning, Upstate Eight Conference victory in Aurora.
Waubonsie Valley 3, Bartlett 2: The visiting Hawks led 2-1 through four innings on the strength of Greg Partyka's 2-run home run, but the Warriors pushed across single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to topple Bartlett in an Upstate Eight Conference game in Aurora. Mike Tomsovic held Waubonsie Valley to 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. Junior Alex Raver took the loss for Bartlett (17-11, 12-8).
St. Charles East 12, Elgin 3: Javier Cárdenas drove in 3 runs and Cody Thomas enjoyed a 3-hit afternoon, but the Maroons committed 4 errors and starting pitcher Casey Knaak walked six in 12/3 innings. Elgin fell to 1-23 overall, 1-18 in the Upstate Eight Conference.
Huntley 3, Crystal Lake Central 1: Senior Tanner Funke (7-2) tossed a complete-game 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks to out-duel CL Central's Connor Buxton (7 IP, 3 hits, 2 BB, 6 K). Funke also doubled and Jordan Contreras went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI for visiting Huntley (22-4-1, 8-1).
McHenry 5, Jacobs 3: Patton Hofer went 3-for-3 and drove in all 3 runs for the Golden Eagles, but it wasn't enough to pull out a second straight win in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference. Jacobs (11-18, 3-6) managed only 1 other hit against McHenry senior Mike Canevello.
Westminster Christian 8, Aurora Christian 7: The Warriors rallied for 3 runs in the seventh to beat the Eagles in Aurora. Joe McGannon hit a run-scoring single to spark the rally, Brandon Siewert followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Steve Berglund's sacrifice fly gave Westminster Christian the lead. Freshman Kevin Elder pitcher 2/3 of an inning to gain the Private School League win. Berglund also homered and Brandon Weingartner went 3-for-4 for the Warriors (24-7, 12-3).
Hampshire 4, Marengo 2: Bo Price went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, and Max Shaw finished 2-for-2 with a double and drove in a run for host Hampshire in a Big Northern-East victory. Kent Larson (8-1) earned the victory in relief after tossing 3 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts and no walks. Ryan Burke struck out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced in the seventh to earn the save for the Whip-Purs (17-10, 6-3).
